Africa Project

Africa is a continent full of history, challenges, and a bright future. However, many countries on the continent struggle with traditional beliefs, the everlasting impact of slavery, corrupt governments, and the challenge of water. Below is a list of possible research topics. Each student in Mr. Reggio’s Social Studies classes will choose a research topic and create a web page, showcasing their research and knowledge on the chosen topic.

Social Studies Syllabus

Sixth Grade Honors Social Studies will take an in-depth look at the various cultures, governments, and people of the world. Throughout the year, students will venture from continent to continent, focusing on the cultures that shape everyday life. Students will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge on these topics through a combination of assessment tools. Google Presentation power point, Google Sites web page construction, research papers, and public speaking are just a few of the assessments used to determine grades. Class participation is also a vital part of our classroom environment. Students are expected to contribute their thoughts and ideas on current events, government, and world news in class and through the weekly WIKI Blog and bi-weekly Current Events.

Enrichment Syllabus

The 6th Grade Social Studies Enrichment class has been designed to introduce students to an independent research project. Many tools and resources will be presented through the project in the form of Ellis Graphic Organizers, Collins Writing, on-line educational resources (Discovery Education), and on-line tools such as Create A Graph. Through this process, students will learn to manage time, their project, and demonstrate sound researching skills. The instructor will guide students through the process of independent research and aide in the development of the project, fostering the talents of each individual student.
